Rheinbahn Commences Operations of PSI Depot Management System

PSI Transcom GmbH was contracted by the Rheinbahn AG in 2010 with the delivery, implementation and start-up of the PSItraffic/DMS depot management system for the Lierenfeld bus and tram depot, one of the largest depots in Germany. After the successful test operation in September 2014, four additional depots were equipped in which buses, trams and city trains are maintained and parked. The entire system, which controls and optimises the processes for about 800 vehicles, was successfully handed over in September 2015.

PSItraffic/DMS replaced the former, 22 years old, operation control system at Rheinbahn. The new system accompanies and controls the process from the arrival of the vehicles until their departure. The specific processes at the various depots are flexibly reproduced and displayed in PSItraffic. Rheinbahn profits from the new DMS with the harmonisation of processes, improved vehicle disposition and reduced shunting time and downtime.

PSItraffic/DMS has an interface to the main switch control in Lierenfeld. In addition, a coupling with the existing control centre in Heerdt was implemented. A further important component of the new system is the radio-based vehicle tracking for buses which is the basis for the dispatching decisions in the depot. In a subsequent step, the VDV 461 in-terface will be implemented to Rheinbahn’s AVMS system that is currently in the rollout phase.

The Rheinbahn AG is the public transportation company for Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine Westphalia. With more than 220 million passengers annually, it is the fifth largest public transportation company in Germany and the largest transportation company in the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr.
